About Lance

Excellence in Petroleum Refining Education and Expert Witnessing

Lance Ulrich’s 30+ year career in the Petroleum Refining Industry is unique. He spent the first half in the Engineering and Operations side of the business as a Process Engineer, Project Engineer/Manager, PSM Coordinator and Operations Supervisor. The second half concentrated on the Commercial side, first in Planning and Economics as a Models Engineer, Operations Planner and Planning Manager, then on the Trading Floor as a Director and VP of Optimization. Lance retired from corporate life in 2016 and now runs his own training and consulting business, RefineryU LLC. Through this business  Lance can concentrate on leveraging his Engineering, Operations and Commercial experience by offering both public and private workshops around the globe and Expert Witnessing services here in the US. Lance is one of those rare Engineers that is exceptionally extroverted so teaching workshops or working with attorneys is a natural fit and he enjoys every minute of it.  When leading workshops, his goal is to teach not just the technical concepts, but also the soft skills to help you break through resistance and get your ideas implemented which is crucial to advancing your career. When working on petroleum refining litigation, Lance can help you untangle the technical concepts and find that needle in a mountain of discovery so that you can formulate a winning strategy. Lance has a BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.
